And if there is one thing that running eight marathons has taught me it's that I still have a lot to learn about running marathons. I had planned to run the 'race' as just a fancy version of an easy long-run . . . a long-run with a ridiculous amount of support.

Lesson 1: There is no such thing as an easy marathon.

For those keeping score at home that's a full 4 slots ahead of Big 12 rival UT.

And before y'all get all fussy, I'll admit I do not expect these rankings to stand for long. But it is shaping up to be a strange season, so anything is possible.

It was such a surreal situation my first thoughts were not:

(2) why is that squirrel three sizes too big; or

So why am I spending the afternoon cloistered in my condo writing blog postings? Because of the severe weather warning of course.

It's 105 degrees (with a heat index of 106) and the weather service is warning that outside exposure should be limited because of a dangerous heat index.
